Giving a tech talk on the 4developers conference (Warsaw, May 2025)

I’m Szymon – a product-oriented software engineer who started building websites back when layouts were crafted in Photoshop, hand-coded with HTML tables, and running on PHP 4.

Fun fact: a few of those relics still live on the Wayback Machine. Open at your own risk!

That’s the moment when frontend became my thing. 🫶

Today I focus on frontend architecture, help teams ship faster, and make pragmatic decisions that move products forward – all while staying hands-on in product work.

Right now this is happening at Lokalise, where I serve as a Staff Frontend Engineer, having a chance to shape the future of internationalization and localization by providing solutions trusted by renowned companies worldwide.

Before Tech#

Before moving fully into tech, I explored a mix of creative and entrepreneurial paths:

  • Building a boutique web agency I worked with local businesses and NGOs to create custom websites, managing all aspects of business: from client acquisition to project delivery.
  • Being a professional musician I toured 7 countries, playing over 1k shows, and selling over 100k records. My band was even featured on the Billboard’s Uncharted list!
  • Founding and running a guitar school I taught over hundred students, developed a unique curriculum, and managed all aspects of the business.
  • Growing a 47k-subscriber YouTube channel Building 5k newsletter audience and monetizing the content trough premium courses. Again, all by myself.
  • And way more… Let me keep some mystery here! 😉

Why the hell is this relevant?

Those experiences taught me to think end-to-end – understand users, shape the experience, build it, and keep improving it.

I bring that mindset to engineering – owning problems holistically and delivering products that work, make sense, and scale.

But wait, there is way more to me than just coding!
